Taoist breathing involves two steps. First, the practitioner learns to gain conscious control over the diaphragm. Next, using muscles of the diaphragm and associated muscles, force is directed to specific, targeted areas of the body. This creates a "pressure wave" inside the body that at basic levels can be used for self-healing, qigong (chi-kung), and meditation purposes. Advanced levels of practice reveal the martial arts "inner secrets" associated with the Taoist practice. This video shares the beginning, basic, practice of the Taoist breathing arts.
